A Meeting of Heart & Mind

In art you need the brain. You need the rules. However, the brain has to be in balance with the heart; you have to feel the drawing too. The brain recognizes the physical facts; the heart interprets them onto the paper as they really are. If the brain takes over like it wants to your drawing comes out cold and dead although maybe recognizable. But if you can train the brain and the heart to rely on what the eyes see, and work together, then you have the makings of a masterpiece. And this is why art is so much like the Christian life. At times we fall back into the rules. At times, our lives seem to be led only by the heart. When we can bring the two together, focused on Christ as our model, that is the great Christian life.
